HOPE FOR UKRAINE

Ukraine is the second largest county in Europe, after Russia.

Although formerly part of the Soviet Union, modern Ukraine has been independent since 1991. This has not come easily however. On-going tensions with Russia and unrest in eastern regions have impacted Ukraine's economy and position on the world stage.

Since independence, Ukraine has continued seeking closer economic, political, and military ties with the West, however it remains among the poorest countries in Europe and suffers from widespread corruption.

In February 2022, Russia lead an unprovoked 'special military operation' into Ukraine. Since then, more than 5.5 million people, mostly women and children, have fled as refugees into neighboring countries or further abroad. Some 6.5 million people are displaced within Ukraine.

Project114 is now working towards establishing a trauma healing project in Ukraine. Allison has also created a Ukrainian version of her Tear Garden poem and illustration. Below is her original painting and the new Ukrainian version.

While the crisis is still evolving and very uncertain, distribution of the Tear Garden will be a 'first step' to bringing hope and beauty back to the people of Ukraine.
